National Senior Health and Fitness Day 2014

national senior health and fitness day 2017

This year, Wednesday, May 28th will mark the 21st Annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day. An estimated 100,000 older adults will participate in fitness events throughout the country.  These events will include non-competitive activities like walking, low-impact exercises, health information workshops as well as health screenings.

National Senior Health and Fitness Day is always held on the last Wednesday during the month of May. The theme this year is “Make a Move Toward Better Health!” The event is organized by the Mature Market Resource Center, a 23-year-old national information clearinghouse for professionals who work in the older adult market.

The common goal of the event is simple: to promote the importance of regular physical activity among older adults. The event strives to show that regular exercise can be fun, and the event also tries to increase awareness of the benefits an exercise program can offer.

On the day of the event, local organizations across the country will host health and fitness related events for seniors. These events will be held at health clubs, banks, senior centers, parks, hospitals, churches, YMCAs and other community locations. Older adults are encouraged to take advantage of the many health and fitness programs offered in their communities not just on National Senior Health and Fitness Day, but every day throughout the year.

American Senior Communities Promotes Physical Fitness Amongst Seniors

American Senior Communities recognize the importance of regular physical fitness for seniors. It’s never too late to start exercising and get healthier overall.  This is why ASC offers the New Energy Wellness Program at many of its locations.

The program is research-based and has proven results. The strength-building programs are developed to build balance, vigor and improve abilities needed in everyday life, like climbing stairs. You will find your posture improved and your walking speed increased.

A Health Promotion Coordinator will work with you and your doctor to create a personalized exercise program to meet your individual fitness needs.

Although many seniors are aware of the importance of staying physically active, they may not know where to start or think their bodies cannot handle a workout regimen. The objective of National Senior Health and Fitness Day is to help seniors discover a program that fits into their daily routine to give them the best quality of life possible.
