Experts in Rehabilitation and Recovery, Where Family and Friends Matter

Experts In Rehabilitation And Recovery

Oftentimes, injuries can lead to hospitalizations, resulting in physical, occupational or speech therapies. Returning home as quickly as possible is always the desire. However, returning home without the proper rehabilitation can greatly increase the chance for seniors to experience a setback, resulting in rehospitalization.

At American Senior Communities, we offer Moving Forward rehabilitation, which is designed for those striving to restore abilities due to stroke, cardiovascular difficulties, orthopedic surgery and other debilitating conditions. Our goal is to help participants return home safely following a hospitalization with the skills they need to continue life on their own terms. Prior to returning home, our team, in partnership with the patient and family, will conduct a comprehensive in-home safety evaluation to ensure patients can successfully navigate their home with confidence.

Our person-centered program is tailored to the individual. Moving Forward includes physical, occupational and speech/language therapies and a full range of interdisciplinary support, including doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers and other service care providers. From therapy and medically integrated programs to our holistic wellness services, we tailor a care plan to improve strength, independence and quality of life. It is also important for our residents to meet others who are in their same walk of life by creating special friendships like Jack and David from Allisonville Meadows Assisted Living.

When Jack Dawson and David McConnell entered the Moving Forward Rehabilitation program at Allisonville Meadows, their goal was to gain strength to return to living life on their own terms. What Jack and David did not expect was to meet someone they could enjoy their journey with. Over the course of their therapy they found that they had a lot in common. They were able to support one another through therapy and started spending more time together.

With the support of each of their families, after graduating from their therapy program, Jack and David both moved to Allisonville Meadows Assisted Living, one of American Senior Communities’ full continuum campuses, located in Fishers, Indiana. “I’ve lived in the area all my life and my daughter, who’s a physical therapist, looked into every place in town,” David said. “This place is the best.”

“My son did the same for me,” added Jack. Although Jack and David both have a strong family support system, the opportunity to make a new friend added to their experiences.

At American Senior Communities, the lifestyle and care options are designed to ensure the residents have the opportunity to make the most of every day. The two men look forward to meeting up daily for their various social activities. At Allisonville Meadows Assisted Living, residents can also enjoy the social aspects available with restaurant style dining. “We eat lunch and dinner together,” said Jack. “We’d eat breakfast together too, but Dave likes to sleep in,” he added with a laugh.

The bond they have created does not go unnoticed by the team at Allisonville Meadows Assisted Living either. “It’s great to see a friendship like Jack and David’s form,” said Taylor High, Thrive Lifestyle Coordinator. Taylor facilitates the social opportunities for the residents at Allisonville Meadows Assisted Living. She says that it is rare to see these two not side-by-side. “Seeing our residents form these friendships makes us so happy because it shows the positive social effects that assisted living communities provide for residents.”

Both men are continuing therapy services as Assisted Living residents. Having a support system down the hall helps their motivation as they continue to improve their strength.

Not only do Jack and David look forward to spending time with one another, they look forward to the opportunity to make additional new friends when new residents move in. “We met a new guy the other day,” David said. “I think he’s gonna fit in just fine.”
